Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Nagpur

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur is better known as Nagpur Airport, the oldest airport of India. In the year 2005, the Union Government of India decided to upgrade Nagpur airport to international standard and renamed it as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport as demanded by the people of Nagpur. At that time it was also planned by the Union civil aviation ministry to turn the Nagpur Airport or Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur into an international cargo hub. Situated at a distance of eight kilometers South-West of Nagpur city the airport is now providing great domestic and international connectivity to Nagpur and other parts of Central India.
  • About the operation: The airport now belongs to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), which has recently developed a new runway in the airport to facilitate operation of B-747 aircrafts. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur has got two separate terminals for domestic and international passengers and has developed a new one which has the capacity to handle 650 people at a time. Availability of facilities like a 9000 feet runway, ground landing, night landing support, instrument landing system, customs, immigration, health, animal and plan quarantine services have helped the Nagpur Airport to earn the status of an international airport and thus its name has been changed to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. The airport now serves several domestic airlines like Air Deccan (flights to Hyderabad and Mumbai only), Air Sahara (flights to Delhi and Hyderabad only), Indian (flights to Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Raipur), IndiGo Airlines (Kolkata, Mumbai), Jet Airways (Delhi, Mumbai) and flights of Kingfisher Airlines to Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Indore and Mumbai. It also serves two international airlines-Air Arabia (flights to Sharjah only) and flights of Indian to Bangkok.
