Located at Nedumbassery near Kochi or Cochin in the state of Kerala, Cochin International Airport, Kochi is considered as one of the youngest airports in India. It is the first airport in the country which was set up with private participation. Other than the Airport Authority of India, the Government of Kerala, non-resident Indians from more than 30 countries, Traveling Public, some financial institutions and airport service providers are the other stake holders of Cochin International Airport, Kochi. The airport was built in traditional architectural pattern of Kerala and is owned by the Cochin international Airport Limited (CIAL), a private company set up by non-resident Indians. It has now become one of the major airports in India and connects Kerala with all major cities of the country and different international destinations as Dubai, Sharjah, Chicago and Singapore.

- About the operation: Situated off national Highway-47, Cochin International Airport, Kochi has got a 3,400- meter long runway and is equipped to handle all kind of aircrafts. It is now the fourth busiest airport in India as far as operation of flights is concerned. During 2006-2007 the airport handled 2.5 million passengers (domestic + international). The airport now has the capacity to serve more than 70 flights from its domestic and international terminals per day and 464 domestic flights and 314 international flights per week. Covering a huge area of 440 acres of land the airport was constructed at an expenditure of Rs 3.15 billion. It serves various domestic and international airlines from two separate terminals and both the terminals are capable to handle Airbus 380. It is controlled by Air India and fuel to the aircrafts is supplied by Bharat petroleum Corporation Ltd. Cochin International Airport, Kochi is now serving domestic airlines like Air Deccan, Air India, Air India Express, Air Sahara, Go Air, Indian, IndiGo Airlines, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Paramount Airways and international airlines like Air Arabia (flights to Sharjah), Air India (flights to Dammam, Jeddah, Kuwait and Riyadh), Air India Express (flights to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Muscat, salalah, Sharjah), Emirates, Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Indian (Bahrain, Doha, Kuwait, Muscat, Sharjah), Jazeera Airways, Kuwait Airways, Mahan Air, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Silkair (Singapore), Sri Lankan Airlines and Tiger Airways.
