Gulf Air, a major international airline operating in India, is the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The origins of Gulf Air can be traced back to the late 1940s when Freddie Bosworth, a British pilot, began an air taxi service to Doha and Dhahran from Bahrain. The service was registered as Gulf Aviation on 24 March 1950 as a private share-holding company, and was later rebranded as Gulf Air in 1974 when the governments of the Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Qatar, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the Sultanate of Oman purchased 25% shareholding each. Today, Gulf Air is a major international airline operating regional and international services to over 45 destinations in 30 countries. Currently Gulf Air operates from the Bahrain International Airport, Manama and has a fleet size of 29.
